Description of Artwork:
Depends on what I’m working on, most of my art takes a long progress. I go from monochromatic colors, very bold colors to dark and edgy. And this is with my mixed media, painting or photography. I draw out my paintings first and then I start painting and also in my photography I draw out a sketch I build the Wardrobe and the headpiece the light setting the background setting, and then I put it into Photoshop to give it that oil painting look
Artist Biography:
Richard A. Acosta is an award winning West Texas photographer whose work captures the soul of the Lone Star State—from windswept canyons and vast desert skies to the quiet magic of star filled nights. With a passion for adventure and storytelling, Richard’s lens turns fleeting moments of natural beauty into timeless works of art.
His breathtaking imagery has been featured in galleries and public spaces across Texas, including the Ellen Noël Art Museum, Arts Council of Midland, and Odessa City Hall Chambers. He has earned top honors such as Best Photographer in the Odessa American Reader’s Choice Awards, First Place in Arts Council Midland’s inaugural open show, and juried placement in the Texas Photographic Society’s Listening to the Land exhibition.
Richard’s work transcends the frame. His dedication to capturing the mystery and majesty of the night sky was featured in The Washington Post’s Christmas series under the story “Confession with the Universe,” and one of his iconic West Texas sunset images was gifted to the President of the United States during a visit to the region.
In addition to his fine art, Richard is a passionate educator, teaching photography to aspiring artists and hobbyists alike. Whether through workshops, one on one mentorships, or guided photo tours, he empowers others to see light differently, connect with the land more deeply, and find their own voice through the lens.
With two solo exhibitions under his belt and a third in Spring 2023, Richard continues to shape the visual narrative of West Texas. Through every image and every lesson, he invites his audience to not just witness beauty, but to experience it fully.
