Midland Art Crawl expands vision for permanent arts initiative

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Since 2022, the Midland Art Crawl has grown beyond its original quarterly event into a catalyst for a larger vision.

Founder Stacy Livingston says they are exploring a three- to five-year plan to ultimately expand it into a permanent multidisciplinary arts and cultural initiative.

“We give foot traffic to local businesses that have a passion for arts and culture, and then we allow visual artists—and we’re working to diversify and provide greater visibility across arts and culture to also include music and culinary. Eventually, we would also like to incorporate film and other creative disciplines.”

Livingston says the ultimate goal is to bring together Midland’s currently fragmented art scene, creating more opportunities for community engagement while supporting local creatives. The effort could also lead to a dedicated cultural space through partnerships and community support.

“We are looking to expand programming to provide greater opportunities in terms of a talent pipeline from children through adults, economic diversification, creating opportunities for creative entrepreneurship, and making Midland a place where culture is built, not just enjoyed—and so we can be known for something other than the oil and gas industry.”

The nonprofit’s next event will be Friday, April 17, from 6 to 11 p.m. and will take place at four venues, including The Blue Door, the FaFa Gallery, the Waystone Brewery, and Cotton Flat Records.

“As far as Cotton Flat Records is concerned, they’re our open mic nights, so we don’t do any pre-sign-ups. So if you are into spoken word or literature or are a singer-songwriter, this is your place. You come at 6 p.m. on April 17, you’re able to sign up on the sheet, and then the performances begin at 7 p.m.”
